To be extraordinary you have to be willing to go where no one else is willing to go.

Today, we’re going to visit where most people do not go, it’s not even on their radar.

I shot a quick video about this as a contest entry to Pam Hendrickson and Mike Koenigs product “Platinum Product Creation consulting package”, this was on the fly so click here to check it out.

The ultimate filter of experience: Language

Think of language as the mother of all experiential filters. Why?

Every experience you have is filtered through your language. Yes, I know you have the five senses (visual, auditory, olfactory, gustatory and kinesthetic) and ultimately the meaning and interpretation is still filtered through your language. It is your language that allows you to assign meaning and make sense.

Language shapes how you think and provides the possibilities or limitations you believe you are capable. Those possibilities are what allow you to 1. Notice 2. Expand 3. Learn. 4. Formulate new distinctions 5. determine to make pursue or not pursue and by how much. For example, if you believe this is possible, you will read on, if you don’t, you probably won’t. It feels uncomfortable when major beliefs are challenged. be careful what you fight for!

Language is made up of words. Each word you use is a bundle of meaning based on YOUR knowledge at the time, position in space, frame of mind, distinctions, definition, past experience, beliefs, values, possibility and more, all wrapped into one. These meanings and definitions YOU assign are in most cases something that was formulated a very long time ago for you, maybe as a child! We take for granted these things. Most people rarely revisit or even know how to access the core or their own thought in this way and it is probably the single most important factor to growth and possibility. It is what shapes your results in this world. The degree of accomplishment you will reach (or not) is determined by what goes on in your head mostly by the degree of possibilities (defined by you) that exist. That is all part of YOUR language.

In most cases once you assign meaning to a word that word is filed away for use in that context. As you use that word or words you bring it all out again. Most often these meanings were assigned a very long time ago, perhaps at a time you may have had limited knowledge, experience or resources. You carry these things with you now and they are outside your awareness, layered deep within your thought and at the core of you!

This is why different people will or will not take certain actions, accomplish certain things or even consider the effort at all. It is why some people see something as possible where others do not.

Remember, what you say about others says more about you then it does about the person you speak of. Be responsible for your communication and be aware of what has to be true to state what you state.

There is no excuse to be lazy about this. It is the most single important factor to the overall story you write about your life.

I encourage you to write an epic novel. You are the Author, Actor and Publisher. Keep it in perspective.

Respectfully,

John Milanoski.
